How To Speed Up Chrome

The latest news from Creative-i-Design

If you've had Chrome running on your Windows computer for a while, the chances are that it's begun to slow down a little (or a lot). Unlike those heady early days, it takes an age to fire up, especially when you've just started your computer.

There are a couple of things you can do to get things back to where they used to be...

Google Chrome

PART ONE
Click on Start and type "cmd". You'll see "cmd.exe" appear in the main list - right click on it and select "Run as administrator". You'll get a command prompt. This might look a little scary, but it's not too complicated. Just type "netsh" (without the quotes!), then type "winsock reset". Once you've got the success message, you can close the command prompt.

PART TWO
This is a bit more involved, and you should first back up your bookmarks and make a note of any useful extensions, as the next step will wipe them all, along with all your saved passwords and form data.
Once you've done that, navigate to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome and delete the folder "User Data".

Once you've done this, reboot your computer and you should find that Chrome starts in a blinding flash; you can re-import all your bookmarks and get on with your day.
